You have finally finished your newly published web site that you spent countless hours working on yourself because you lacked the financial backing as most new developers do. If you’re like me, someone who built their site from scratch, doing all the research yourself, learning how to write various web languages in your spare time whilst receiving no paycheck and pouring all your blood, sweat and frustration into designing a site that was just an idea in your head, then dag-namit someone better visit your site! There are many different web sites out there that claim they can turn your site around and main stream it “quick as a wink,” merely by filling out some more junk that you don’t want to waste time on and then shelling out more of your hard earned cash. Again, probably something you don’t want to do, right? Bull!!! Like anything on the web, from researching to purchasing to developing, the web takes time. This is something you understand all too well if you are the sole developer of your site.

For example, if you look up the phrase “Poetry Competition” using Google’s fancy keyword search tool (Fig 1), (which tells you how many times that word was looked up recently) you can see that the words “Poetry Contest” received nearly twice as many hits.
Did you know that even the words you choose as web page headers are searched as well as your Metadata. A cool free keyword suggestion tool is by Wordtracker. It’s easy to find with a quick Google search of “Keyword Suggestions.” This site is a bit more user friendly and provides 100 top related keywords. Choosing the right word or should I say, “more popular word” can mean the difference between 100 or 1000 hits. Therefore, keywords may not get your site next to Facebook’s, but it is definitely an easy basis to cover.

The next step is to implement these keywords into your web site. There are many websites that offer suggestions on keyword placement as well as sites that offer keyword code generators. You simply type in your site name, keywords, site description and other required data and wahla, cut and paste. Your URL Listed On Other Sites
Another way to get your site recognized for cheap is called “link-building.” This is the practice by which your web URL being placed on other sites increases your site’s popularity and is known as “referrals.” Having your site listed or referred on another site with equal or higher popularity rating can increase your own popularity. You can begin by submitting your site to: dmoz dot org (just follow the directions on submitting your site).
This site is free to submit to and there are others that can be found by doing a couple hours of research. There are also sites that charge as well. You can also find cheap sites that will advertise your site on a pay-per-click basis, just type in “pay per click” in your browser. Remember, the more your site name is listed on the web, the more popular it becomes.
Write Some Articles
Next on the list is becoming an article publisher. The site your reading this article on is a prime example. I know… your saying, “How can writing articles give my site exposure?” Well, how it works is because every site wants to increase their exposure, so by you submitting an article to a site it adds content which is searchable through the search engines. By having a wide range of articles, an article submission site can attract everyone from those wanting to learn how to type to those wanting to learn how to build a rocket. Since the article sites add advertisements to every published article, they get tons of exposure for their associated affiliates**.
The way this works in your favor is when you submit your article, you get to enter a web address to associate with the article which gets published on the article site. After completion of my site I went back to these forums and posted the solutions I found for the problems I was experiencing and at the bottom of the page I would list my web page. I bet you even clicked on my site just see what it looks like. This is my point. A web address in blue looks inviting.
